Early Exposure to Lung Irritants Results in Problems Later

A study presented at the May, 2006, American Thoracic Society International Conference indicates a young worker's exposure to lung irritants can result in lung problems later in life. The study consisted of 348 apprentices of painters, machinists, electricians and insulators who were in their early 20s in 1988.

PepsiCo Hit by Benzene Lawsuit

Lawyers have filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo in California, alleging one of its drinks may contain the cancer-causing chemical benzene.

High Percentage of Californians Endorsed Prop. 65

Senator Barbara Boxer understands that the public health of Californians is in jeopardy and we need state protection against toxic chemicals. Did you know that 63% of Californian voters endorsed Proposition 65? Could that be because we don't want a food company to intentionally expose us to known carcinogens or reproductive toxins? Call us picky eaters, but we want to know what is in the food we eat.

EPA Drops Plan to Approve Pesticide

Methyl bromide which has been used in strawberry fields for years has been banned because it harms the Earth's ozone layer. However, farmers still use this dangerous chemical because they have yet to find a fumigant replacement. The problem with the proposed substitute pesticide, methyl iodide, is that it is also a toxic and dangerous chemical. The EPA has decided to hold off for another year before approving one dangerous chemical for another. Hey, it's a start in the right direction.
